Happy Birthday to Me!

Last night we went out to dinner for my birthday, which was actually almost two weeks ago. We went to a Japanese place called Hanna Japan. It’s one of those teppanyaki places, like Benihana. We, my wife and I, were not alone at dinner. This was a dinner for all of the June birthdays of those in my inner social circle. …… Time Out ……

OK, I have been writing this BLOG anonymously, sort of, because what if I my wife was acting all hormonal and I wrote something insensitive about her? It could happen. Hell, this entry you’re reading now could be seen that way. I don’t know, I’m just the FTB, which is a lot like the proverbial Unthawed Caveman Lawyer….”your modern ways confuse and scare me.” Anyway, I’m going to cut that shit out now. My wife, Jani, knows I’m writing this BLOG. She knows the address, but since she’s “living it,” she’s not terribly interested in reading what I have to say. Also, all this writing about myself in the third person and not referring to our friends by name is getting a little confusing. So, from this point on I won’t be changing the names to protect the innocent. Sorry Dana and Evan, I’m going to point to that part of the doll and show the nice man where you touched me. OK, that didn’t actually happen, but you get my point. OK, back to the BLOG entry, already in progress.

OK, so there were nine of us at dinner last night. There was Jani and I, Karen and Shaun, Uncle Kelly, Manuel and Jocelyn, Monelu sans Frank (he’s in Mexico visiting his other family), and Corina. I had assumed that everyone at El Charro knew that Jani and I were expecting, as Karen and Kelly both knew. Well, as it turned out, I was wrong. Karen and Uncle Kelly didn’t tell anyone even after we started telling everyone. We were at the bar, waiting for the stragglers to show up. I was drinking for two, as is my job now. I made some comment about why Jani wasn’t drinking… not exactly sure what I said… when Monelu said, “what? Jani’s pregnant!?” The word spread quickly to Jocelyn and Manuel, and then to Corina. Heartfelt congratulations were given and glasses were raised in toast. In the end, we had a good meal and a great time. Then Jani started feeling lousy, as she does a lot these days, and we left.

There’s really no moral to this story. It’s just some stuff that happened. But, I guess I can’t just assume that word is spreading about our current situation. It’s sad when one realizes that he/she is actually not the subject of everyone’s conversation. What the hell is everyone talking about if not me? Family Guy? The Simpsons? America’s Got Talent? Someone get me 10CC’s of Ego Boost and 5CC’s of ringer’s lactate, STAT!

Keep those cards and letters coming kids.

Love,

Papi (A.K.A. Patcj)

I couldn’t do it. I had to come out of the baby closet.

How do you write a blog anonymously when your wife is sending me the link and you mention all your friends by name? And you swore you’d never bring up that doll again.
